Detailed description

Nevsky Gate was built in 1716. They connect the bastions of the Peter and Paul Fortress. The gate was considered the only exit to the Neva River. Weapons, construction materials and provisions were transported through them. In 1732, the building was rebuilt, the inner side of the gate remained stone. In the eighteenth century, the Nevsky Gate was reconstructed. They have become functional due to the granite pier. The building was built in the classical style. The width and height reaches 12 meters. The main building material is light gray granite. The sides of the gate are crowned with columns. They are connected by a pair of beams, and the top is decorated with a triangular pediment and a pattern with an anchor and crossed palm branches. The entrance has an arched shape. It is framed by pilasters with decorations in the shape of the letter E. This is the monogram of the Russian Empress Catherine II, the crown and the replacement.
