Detailed description

Built in the 80s of the 18th century, it has three floors. Perhaps the owner of the house was Prince Nikolai Nikitich Trubetskoy, but no confirmation of this has yet been found. While in exile, Trubetskoy sold his property to Major General Vasily Alekseevich Kara. The house was damaged during the Great Fire in Moscow in 1812 and was sold to the treasury a few years later. After the restoration of the house in the early 1820s, the Basmanny police station was located here. A wooden tower (dismantled in Soviet times) was erected on the roof of the building, and a typical prison house was set up in the garden. Over the years, writer Vladimir Galaktionovich Korolenko, poet Vladimir Mayakovsky, and the future revolutionary Bolshevik Inessa Armando were arrested in the Basmanny unit. Until recently, the building retained its historical function and housed a police station. Restoration work is currently underway on the monument.
