Almshouse of the Moscow nobility named after S.D. Nechaev
Detailed description
The almshouse was built in 1901 at the expense of the Nechaev brothers, an "entrepreneur" and a collegiate assessor. Their father was a major philanthropist, and the sons wanted to honor his memory in this way. The building of the poorhouse is made in the Russian style, with elements of Art Nouveau. The building has three floors, it is lined with brick with geometric rustication. There is a metal openwork comb on top. Above the central entrance is a balcony with an openwork fence, the base of which is granite round columns. The church of the Holy First Martyr Archdeacon Stephen, who was revered by the father of the creators, was added to the courtyard. During the First World War, an infirmary for soldiers who lost their eyesight was located here. For all the events that the country went through in the 20th century, the building changed its purpose more than once. At the moment, it houses the Federal Service for Supervision of Education and Science.
