Shukhov Tower

The Shukhov Tower was designed by architect and inventor Vladimir Shukhov and built in 1919-1922. Its height is 148.5 meters and its weight is 240 tons. The tower is a hyperbolic structure in the form of a load-bearing mesh shell. The tower consists of six sections of different diameters. The Shukhov Tower began broadcasting radio broadcasts immediately after its construction. The first television programs were broadcast only in 1939. In 2002, television and radio broadcasting from the Shukhov Tower was discontinued. In 2013, the tower was in a pre-emergency condition. In 2016, the building was included in the World Heritage List with a protected status.
