The Church of the Ascension of the Lord, on the Pea Field
Detailed description
The Church of the Ascension of the Lord on the Gorokhov Field was built in 1788-1793 in the style of Moscow classicism. Matvey Fedorovich Kazakov is credited with a number of details in the architecture of the building. The shrines of the temple are considered to be a cross – reliquary with fragments of the holy relics of St. Nicholas, St. Sergius of Radonezh and St. Simeon the God–receiver, the icon of the Mother of God "Unexpected Joy" and "Sovereign" (both are in the temple).
