Cathedral of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior
Detailed description
The decision to build the temple arose from Emperor Alexander I after the victory in the Patriotic War with Napoleon. In 1883, the cathedral was consecrated. During the Stalinist reconstruction of Moscow, the temple was destroyed. It was planned to build the Palace of Soviets in its place, but in the end this idea was abandoned, and in 1960 the Moscow swimming pool opened here. After the collapse of the USSR, the cathedral was restored. It is the largest Orthodox church in Russia. In terms of the temple looks like an equilateral cross, and its decoration is made in the traditions of the Russian-Byzantine style. The temple constantly contains fragments of the robe of Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary, as well as the nail of Christ the Savior.
