Apartment house of D.S. Katsenelenbogen
Detailed description
The apartment building was built in 1908-1909. Nicolai Katzenenbogen built the building for his dentist father, David Katzenelenbogen. The surname Katselenbogen was well-known in the city. The first rabbi of St. Petersburg and Leningrad belonged to it since 1908. An Art Nouveau house with six floors is built into a block of residential buildings. It is located on the corner of Bolshoy Prospekt Vasilyevsky Island and Gavanskaya Street. The bay window of the building overlooks Gavanskaya Street. Since 2001, the site has been included in the list of cultural heritage sites. The exterior walls of the building are decorated in light shades. The lower floors are visually separated by a frieze. The front doors face the streets, and there is a courtyard–well inside the house. The original staircases with handrails decorated with geometric ornaments have been preserved in the front rooms.
