Secret Water Gate

The secret water gate is part of the Novgorod Kremlin complex. They are located north of the Sofia Belfry — in the Kremlin wall, and represent a through-arched opening, the width of which is 430 meters, with two projections on the sides. They were built of limestone at the end of the XV century. Above the gate there is a spacious, vaulted chamber, like a guardhouse. There was a secret well in the lower chamber.
