Sofia Belfry

The famous Sofia Belfry, which is located in the Novgorod Detinets, is an architectural monument of the XV-XVIII centuries. This is a multi-span podkolennoe structure, mentioned in the chronicle in 1437. According to eyewitnesses, the belfry fell into Volkhov during the flooding of the fortress. Today, the belfry is located outside the eastern wall of Detinets, almost adjacent to the wall and a few meters away from the 19th-century arch instead of the Prechistenskaya Tower, which collapsed in 1745.
