Metropolitan Chambers

The metropolitan chambers were built in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Today, the historical building is considered to be a monument of urban planning and architecture. The Metropolitan's chambers were built from the Kremlin's Resurrection Gate to St. Sophia Cathedral. The building is made in the classical style, it has been rebuilt several times. In the first half of the eighteenth century, on the site of the chambers there was a one-story building with an orphan's house and an almshouse. In 1770, under the leadership of Catherine II, a second floor with a mezzanine was built. White tile masonry along the window openings was used as architectural decorations. The corner parts of the building were created with Ionic columns and a triangular roof. The building is U-shaped, two-storied, with beige walls.
