Detailed description

The very first triumphal gate in St. Petersburg. The monument is a part of the Petrovsky curtain wall of the Peter and Paul Fortress. In St. Petersburg, the Petrovsky Gate is the only such structure that has been preserved since the time of Peter I.The gate was named after the patron saint of Peter the Great. In the niche on the sides of the gate there are two Athenians: a city woman in loose clothes and a warrior woman in armor. Then the Russian coat of arms was installed above the arch. It was made in the form of a panel depicting the overthrow of Simon the Magus by the Apostle Peter. This building is a striking monument of the Baroque era.
