St. John 's Gate
Detailed description
The front facade stands on columns with bas-reliefs decorated with rosettes. The pediment has shallow reliefs in the form of spears, drums, and flags surrounding the golden imperial crown, and contains the date 1740, when the fortress was completed. The architectural solution preserves the classical norms of antiquity and Ancient Russia, characteristic of the architecture of arches and triumphal arches. The upper part of the building (the tympanum) is decorated with a sculptural cartouche in the form of a golden crown, the symbol of the Russian state. On both sides of it there are symbols of valor - flags, spears and drums.
