Exchange Bridge
Detailed description
Birzhevoy Bridge is a drawbridge across the Malaya Neva River connecting Vasilyevsky and Petrogradsky Islands. During the Soviet period, it also had another name - "Bridge of Builders" (1918-1989). The bridge got its name from the building of the stock exchange, which once stood on the spit of Vasilyevsky Island. The length of the exchange bridge is 239 meters, and the width is 27 meters. Of these, 21 meters are accounted for by highways. The remaining 6 meters are intended for pedestrians. The Exchange Bridge consists of five steel spans. The central span is basic and has two wings. The steel structure is complemented by granite-decorated pillars and cast-iron grilles depicting the trident of Neptune.
