Old Mint
Detailed description
The mint was built at the end of the 17th century. The mint is divided into an external and an internal extended building of chambers on two floors. There is a passage arch in the middle of the building. In Peter's time, the first floor was occupied by chambers, each of which had its own entrance. The windows with their white stone architraves overlook only the courtyard. The courtyard was rebuilt during the reign of Anna Ioannovna. Now the mint serves as a neutral architectural backdrop for the Kazan Cathedral, which was restored in the 1990s.
