Detailed description

The first private mosaic workshop in Russia was founded in 1890, it was originally located at 13 Kadetskaya Line. The Frolov family moved to Bolshoy Boulevard only in 1899. The apartment building was built gradually and consisted of several parts. The right side of the house was built later. This is clearly seen by the large Art Nouveau windows on the second floor, which are not on the ground floor. Mosaic decorations have been preserved on the walls in the courtyard of the house. In the center of the courtyard entrance, a mosaic coat of arms of the Russian Empire hangs in front of the visitor. Above the archway, there is a mosaic insert with the inscription "Founded in 1890" with motifs of the Art Nouveau era. The workshop has completed many works, including the decoration of the famous Church of the Resurrection of Christ (Savior on Spilled Blood). After the revolution, the workshop was closed. According to some reports, the Frolov family was forced to leave the building in 1929. In Soviet times, V. A. Frolov headed the mosaic workshop of the Academy of Arts, where he competed until 1917.
