The house of Princess M.K. Kugusheva
Detailed description
The house is located in the center of Kamenny Island. In the summer of 1893, architect K. G. Preis began construction of a two-story "big cottage", a temporary house, a stable, a janitor's room and a glacier.
The upper floor is wooden with stone rustication, and the second floor and towers are wooden. The spatial composition is based on the contrast of the vertical of the tower and the main volume of the house. The two-tiered octagonal tower is topped with a tall tent with a spire and stylized as a half-timbered one. The main facade, which was completed with a high pointed gable, is directed to a Side Alley. In the country of late eclecticism, there is an asymmetric grouping of volumes and the dynamics of silhouette solutions. In addition to the main staircase and the veranda overlooking the pond, there is another one, which was made in the Art Nouveau style.
