The foundation of the Borisoglebskaya Tower
Detailed description
Borisoglebskaya Tower is a square tower on the left bank of the Volkhov River, built at the end of the 15th century on the site of a tower built in 1331-1334. The tower had five floors, and was rectangular in shape, with blank walls. At the end of the 16th century, eighteen loopholes were built inside the tower. At the same time, an exit gate was built in the tower. At the end of the 18th century, the tower and its southern wall collapsed during a fire in 1745. Today, only the foundation of the tower has been preserved. A concreted platform has been built above the foundation, which rises above the ground, and an information plaque is currently installed on the fortress wall on the Volkhov side.
