Church of the Assumption of the Most Holy Theotokos
Detailed description
The Kiev Caves Lavra acquired the former compound of the Pskov Episcopal House, which previously belonged to the Trinity Sergius Monastery. Instead of the house church, which had existed since the 18th century, a new brick church in the Russian style with five domes and no pillars was built according to the design of V. A. Kosyakov. The church was founded on August 15, 1895, and the main altar was consecrated on December 18, 1897. A side chapel was dedicated to the Cathedral of All the Venerable Fathers of the Kiev Caves. However, in 1935 the temple was closed and used as a warehouse, and in 1956-1957 it was converted into an ice rink. In June 1991, the church was transferred to the Optina Pustyn monastery, and worship services resumed only in 1993. On September 15, 2013, Patriarch Kirill performed the rite of great consecration.
