Demidovsky Workers ' Charity House

On March 19, 1833, diplomat Anatoly Demidov donated money for the construction of a house of diligence on the Moika River embankment. Single women from poor families, where they lived, studied and worked, were accepted into the house of diligence. These institutions were opened as the first form of social entrepreneurship in Russia.
